boyd is a consultant. he was been anti rj for about 5 years now. he has been predicting the end of the rj for as long. he is wrong and he won't give it up. the 50 seat has peaked. the new model will be the 70 seater. as scope weakens or vanishes 90-110 seats for the regionals. i don't like it, but i can't stop it. i may as well try to make money off of the trend.
I think you are wrong and have been cheering the RJ too long. RJ's have a clear use but Boyd is right on, that UAL is in a bind and by throwing RJ's on high dollar runs is a means to merely look good on paper to try an meet there loan conv. (which they are not right now).
There is absolutely no long term fix in outsourcing mainline routes such as ORD-ATL. PDX-DEN etc. and this is what Boyd is infering. Put an RJ SFO-MFR...that is reasonable and justifiable.
