    Unrelated business taxable income

Does anyone know if KMP generated UBTI in 2012, and if so, how much in total, and how much per share? I have KMP in an IRA, and hopefully the UBTI on my 1000 shares of KMP will be less than $1,000. Thank you.

    • I did not hold KNP in 2012 but all had negative UTBI in 11 others ,except NRP a Coal Royality MLP. The UTBI issue in a MLP in something the IRS has not specifically addressed. At the present it's a non issue but if the thought bothers you by all means sell your shares. I would like to see the price in the low-mid $70ies before I buy in to insure a big profit . There are other opinions on UBTI and you are welcome to form your own. Short traders like to talk about UBTI to scare off the uninformed.

    • Nobody can answer that for you.
Everyone's UBTI is different depending when you bought units, what price, etc.
Your UBTI changes over the life of your investment.
If other people had large negative that probably implies negative for you also but nobody can tell you how much per unit as it will be different for each holder.

Having said that I do expect your 2012 UBTI on KMP would be under $1000 or even negative (assuming you have no other MLPs in the IRA).
