Maybe not right now but this is certainly a possibility. Corning a technology leader and innovator and one of the oldest company in the US has a good chance of being added to the Dow Jones Industrial 30.
I can see Corning in the Dow30 as it is an intrical part of our economy. In the conference call, it was stated there is a good possibility that Corning will be paying out a dividend due to its strong cash flow.
I like that idea. GLW will soon be a true blue chip. There is more upside in the coming years. Probably some short-term fluctuations but definately a long term portfolio stock.
Regarding SUNW, the charts are showing no resistance above the current price as its had a mild break from 6.33 this morning. I'm hoping that this is another Corning but this time I won't keep selling it on pullbacks.
< I spent one winter in North Central IN and had worse weather than I have seen here in 27 years. >
NW IN and SW MI got hit yesterday with Benton Harbor getting over 20 inches.
Many people don't know the effect the Great Lakes have on areas just to the east and south of the lakes. Since we are on the west side, we only get 45 inches a year on average.
"I'm praying that SUNW will continue its breakout but it got stuck at resistance/support. I've been a bagholder on that one for a long time.."
Sunw is at a 4 year high. The present pattern looks like a saw tooth with higher highs, higher lows. With others feeling as you do, looking to dump, each high of the saw tooth takes out a few more looking to break even or reduce their losses. If that group of holders gets used up before those looking to get in on the dips, a major breakout could happen.
Life is a gamble.
As to the snow. Cleveland to Buffalo along I 90 all gets hit but many times the snow does not get real deep until the elevation gets higher well away from the lakes. We are about 115 miles from Lake Erie as the wind travels and we get lake effect, but it has already covered high elevations and we are low here. Usually we get a dusting to an inch.
Go about 60 miles South and the Susquehanna river valley breaks the Southern heavy wet snows. Not too often get here but Williamsport and area get hit hard. I have driven through that region many times while working for GLW. Then the Noreasters barely get here but Binghamton about 60 miles to the East gets much more snow than us. So we just get goomy dark Winter weather. Many places have it much worse. I spent one winter in North Central IN and had worse weather than I have seen here in 27 years.
Good luck with SUNW.
Yeah, I saw that pileup in Erie.
Western NY gets the same huge lake effect that hits Traverse City. TC has both the length of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan to gather moisture. West of you gets Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Probably a push on who gets more.
Have a good investing week. I'm praying that SUNW will continue its breakout but it got stuck at resistance/support. I've been a bagholder on that one for a long time and would love to dump it with minimal losses. See ya.
Boy I dont know what you were smoking during the conference call but they did not say they were paying dividends.
The comment was with extra money IF THEY HAD ANY AFTER R and D they would BUY BACK DEBT, then BUY BACK STOCK, then consider re instating dividends.
You idiots hear what you want to hear ind ignore reality.
Go listen to the CC call again idiot
HR Boca ... I am 100% sure you work for GE, not only you the name fits a GE employee, but your language as well. Go back and look at all your responses, you did nothing but try to clarify what other users have said, and that is typicall of a GE Manager. They do this and want to get the credit.
Please do not get me wrong, I like your post, but I really would love to hear your true input on GLW?
What they said in the conference call was their cash flow generation is so strong they will consider either buying back shares or consider distribution the extra cash as a dividend to shareholders.
This is something I have not heard from management in a very long time. It is also the making of a blue chip in the early stages to even consider that.
All is good. I would buy more shares if it goes down. Good luck.
Just bought some at 20.98. If it goes down more I will add more to my position.
GLW is a force to be reckoned with. Dow30 in two years if not sooner.
Anyone else feel Corning should be a part of the DJIA 30 stocks.
YES!! YES!! Indeed I do. I have the spirit and belief. To the Dow #30 we go. It is encouraging to see such optomism and perspicacity in the face of negativity. Yes, GLW and Hillary Clinton will ascend the heights together in 2008.
