Who does he think he is, John Kerry?

Candidate’s Words on Vietnam Service Differ From History

At a ceremony honoring veterans and senior citizens who sent presents to soldiers overseas, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut rose and spoke of an earlier time in his life.

“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”

There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.

The deferments allowed Mr. Blumenthal to complete his studies at Harvard; pursue a graduate fellowship in England; serve as a special assistant to The Washington Post’s publisher, Katharine Graham; and ultimately take a job in the Nixon White House.

In 1970, with his last deferment in jeopardy, he landed a coveted spot in the Marine Reserve, which virtually guaranteed that he would not be sent to Vietnam. He joined a unit in Washington that conducted drills and other exercises and focused on local projects, like fixing a campground and organizing a Toys for Tots drive.

Many politicians have faced questions over their decisions during the Vietnam War, and Mr. Blumenthal, who is seeking the seat being vacated by Senator Christopher J. Dodd, is not alone in staying out of the war.
Its not surprising that Blumey is a democrap politician and full time fiction writer!

    • "...and showed strength when he threw his good conduct medal over the White House fence."

Whos GCM was it? He was an officer. The GCM is awarded to "enlisted" personnel for "exemplary conduct, efficiency, and fidelity throughout a specified period of continuous enlisted active Federal military service". Just curious.

    • Togo: A person in charge of the company records that Bush was in, did state what Dan Rather said was factually correct. What he read was not the original document. The crazy Right Wing Nuts were never able to accept the truth.

    • Right on!! Finally someone set the record straight.

    • I think you've got it wrong. He must have thought he
was Dick Cheney. After all, Cheney also had 5 deferments. How many did you have? And did you forget, John Kerry did serve in Vietnam and under fire.

    • Dan Rather lost his job for using a forged document in his report. Unfortunate , because ALL his allegations have since proven true. W was a class A fuc up. His daddy bribed his way in ahead of 100,000 people on the "Champagne" list. He was drunk , AWOL and forbidden to fly. And was the first presidential candidate to have never released his military record. And like Cheney he was a supporter of the war. A supporter of the war as long as someone else did the fighting. A coward by any other name is still a coward. And yet he had the nerve to send in good Americans to die in Iraq. The "War President " my azz. If you have any more like him you can kiss your azz goodbye in 2012.

    • Lick my azz.....f(a)g boy

    • " Bush never lied about his military service". Really! In a Sept. 2004 interview with Bill O'Reilly Bush lied about getting preferential treatment for getting into the "Champagne" Guard. He lied about his required flight hrs. He lied about 1.5 yrs of "active" duty and about fufilling his required duty. He lied repeatedly and yet you guys overlooked his lies because he was one of your own.

    • The stupid 'son-o-bitch', just lied again during his press conference. He stated that when he enlisted in the reserves he did not know where he would be sent. That was a bald face lie! When you enlist in the Reserve 6 month active duty Program ( which covered basic training and a basic MOS training school, your 6 months is pretty much over and you go back to the reserve unit in which you enlisted and attend meeting one weekend a month and maybe a couple weeks a year training cruise, for the remainder of your 6 year tour. You sign-up for a vacancy in 'THAT' unit. They aren't going to send you to Viet Nam for a couple of months only.
Regardless he knew exactly where he was going to serve.

As he puts it he's still a mis-speaker and a democrat. Certainly nothing unusual about that.
