Here is a great analysis of where Corning is at the present and looking forward with some clarity at 2011. I am very long on this stock and this is one of the better looks at the company that I have seen in a long, long while. (By the way, the political nuts are really having a field day on this site)
Its obviously not been dead money, its made a rise from a buck to 18 bucks -- that's hardly dead -- but sure, that 18 point gain over the course of many years is slow in comparison to many other stocks that have done better, quicker, even though I don't think the actual companies have performed as well as Corning. So, I wouldn't describe GLW as a dead stock -- just a BORING stock! The real way to make money on GLW has been to sell covered calls on the stock you own, month after month after month. I keep waiting for the month when the call sellers will be burned, but I'm not holding my breath! If the pattern for the last 37 months holds true this month, we'll see the stock move higher next week, the call sellers will step in and then "surprisingly" the stock will retrace all the gains the third week of the month -- just in time for ALL the calls that were sold to expire worthless.
stockmun, nice, but I have a hard time with his assertion that AUO is a competitor to GLW. AUO makes the panels/displays, and does not make any glass for panels/displays. GLW makes the glass and no panels.
"You want to buy GLW here before the good news comes out, because if you wait until then, it will be too late."
Nice article, however one glaring ommission was no mention of solar glass. This will be a huge revenue and profit generator for Corning, beginning within the next 2 years.
That's beautiful dad!
Corning stock price end of 2011. $17.50
Ever heard of dead money? That's what you have here, and it will remain so. Short the sh-t or sell the sh-t.
I think that GLW is the safest stock in the market today that will give you at least 15-20% return in the next 12 months.
1. It is bound to grow. (Gorilla glass is going to tak-off soon)
2. It is not going to go bankrupt
3 It has no corruption
4 It may end up as a take over target
I can't see how a person could possible not make a good profit with this company!
