Why you don't allow Republicans to be Education Commissioners.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott on resigning Ed Commissioner who was caught cheating,”He did a good job”
August 1, 2013
After the Associated Press obtained mails showing former Indiana and current Florida schools chief Tony Bennett changing the grade on his prominent Republican donor’s charter school from a ‘C’ to an ‘A’, he announced his resignation. But Florida Gov. Rick Scott is defending the state’s resigning education commissioner, saying he did a good job.
Scott added that he did not fire Bennet and that he resigned on his own.
The AP reports,” Scott refused to answer questions about the accusations against Bennett in Indiana. Scott repeated only that he was pleased with Bennett’s work in Florida.”
Bennett built his national reputation by promising to hold “failing” schools accountable, yet altered the grade for a prominent Republican donor’s charter school. In a Sept. 12 email Bennett to then-chief of staff Heather Neal, who is now Gov. Mike Pence’s chief lobbyist wrote, ”They need to understand that anything less than an A for Christel House compromises all of our accountability work.”
