It would seem that 8's position in VOIP and now Cloud computing would make it very attractive to software companies. Which is better? 8 is purchased by a software giant (Msft,Apple,Adobe,Google) or for 8 to purchase a smaller/newer software company? IMHO microsoft really slipped on the purchase of Skype -- the software used to build the infrastructure / backbone of the "cloud" will become the standard for the following decade(s). B/c Apple basically uses a standard software platform across multiple devices it would seem that 8 would be a good fit for that company to transition to cloud computing. However, given 8s position, it may be riskier, but outright purchasing an innovative company to become the cloud could place 8 in a peer-group with msft and apple. I'm no psychic and just an average joe -- but considered this and wondered what others were thinking.
I'm in the telecommunications business and from what I see the lanscape is changing rapdily. Landline phones are becoming extinct, hard copy books are on the run, phones are small computers, who knows what's next. What may seem as small and trivial today may become center piece tomorrow. EGHT appears to be a company that may have hit a sweet spot at the tight time. Timing is everything. Connecting devices with a common protocal may be whre things are going. Like anything we are in throngs of change, no guarantees. That's what makes it so inticing.
