4 senior IC design engineers and

8x8 recently recruited 4 senior IC design engineeers at the same time and 1 business application software engineer(last month).
Anyone knows why? Four applications in one chip???

    • Well, think about it. Is each person the sole
worker an ony technology application / design? I don't
think so. They usually work in teams. Not to mention
there may be some licensing or engineering outsourcing
contract that was not mentioned in a PR. Last year they
had a quarter with $6mm in non recurring licensing
revs...not saying that something is not in the works, just
      throwing a caveat out there.

      But if you think
about it, what's the next platform? My thinking is
there will ultimately be three mediums for video
conferencing; Computer, (phone lines) POTS/ASDL/DSL-TV, and
Cable-TV. So perhaps they are working on a prototype for a
cable set top box that incorporates video conferencing
for companies like @Home, or a new
fax/video/data/voice modem for 3Com. We've certainly expressed on this
thread on numerous occasions that the set top box would
be the ultimate winning delivery platform once they
figure out how to use cable to make
      set-top-to-set-top-calls.

    • please see today's edition of the USA
Today.....look in the SPORTS section page 9C. You will see a
full page add from NuVision Technologies promoting TV
quality video conferencing. Multiple hardware vendors
participating with the promotion include VTEL and Picturetel
      {which employs 8x8 technology}.
