    4 senior IC design engineers and

    8x8 recently recruited 4 senior IC design engineeers at the same time and 1 business application software engineer(last month).
    Anyone knows why? Four applications in one chip???

    • Well, think about it. Is each person the sole
      worker an ony technology application / design? I don't
      think so. They usually work in teams. Not to mention
      there may be some licensing or engineering outsourcing
      contract that was not mentioned in a PR. Last year they
      had a quarter with $6mm in non recurring licensing
      revs...not saying that something is not in the works, just
      throwing a caveat out there.

      But if you think
      about it, what's the next platform? My thinking is
      there will ultimately be three mediums for video
      conferencing; Computer, (phone lines) POTS/ASDL/DSL-TV, and
      Cable-TV. So perhaps they are working on a prototype for a
      cable set top box that incorporates video conferencing
      for companies like @Home, or a new
      fax/video/data/voice modem for 3Com. We've certainly expressed on this
      thread on numerous occasions that the set top box would
      be the ultimate winning delivery platform once they
      figure out how to use cable to make

      Today.....look in the SPORTS section page 9C. You will see a
      full page add from NuVision Technologies promoting TV
      quality video conferencing. Multiple hardware vendors
      participating with the promotion include VTEL and Picturetel
      {which employs 8x8 technology}.
