The reason I sold all of my Apple shares when it was trading at $650.00 was because off the strong abuse of their factory workers in China. Although some of the reports were not accurate, most of them were. I even heard on NPR about one Chinese city becoming complete devastated due to the pollution of a new nearby Apple factory, Chinese being interviewed were distraught at having to move, effects were so bad. Many people got very sick. I simply could not feel good making money on other's suffering.
Sprint is an amazing company as far as caring about the environment - ranked #3on Newsweek's Green Rankings for 2011. Also last Q3 update, Dan Hesse said they couldn't dismantle some towers because of large groups of nesting birds. Is there any company that cares as much? And now a huge buyback program to recycle customers old phones!
Point is, I feel great investing my money in such a great company. It's the way I want to live my life - with integrity.
No they weren't and I doubt had Steve Jobs had to withdraw from his directorship due to his serious illness that he would have allowed it to happen. However, I will research and find just when Apple began such abusive practices in China and come back with a post.
As far me, I lost money on my investment with Apple - not a huge amount - but got in over what I sold it for. Sat very quietly with my heart for a week before I decided to sell, as I knew that Apple was only going up and up. Bottom line for me - how could I listen to John Lennon's "Imagine" and gleefully pocket my profits with Apple?
