    questions

Today I heard that Sears Cananda is going to open
    a combination electronics/home fashions store...I
know with the hardware stores and the homelife stores
they have positioned in the US. Are there any plans to
do this is the US also? Also, does this sound like
positioning to remove all hard goods from mall stores and
have fashions only in the mall to compete with JC
Penney and others in the Mall? Anybody heard anything
    like this???

    • I couldn't find my calendar I thought maybe I
made a mistake and scheduled my vacation at the wrong
time-chris had me worried for a second I did forget to ask
his permission-is it ok chrissy? By the way more
cruises taken this time of year than any other or is that
incorrect also chrissy? Don't you have any words of wisdom
for us poor Sears people chrissy?

    • It has been talked about by some associates that
I work with at Sears. I too have heard that Sears
would like to remove hardlines from the mall stores. I
can see their reasoning here. Margins on
hardlines(lawn and garden, hardware etc.) aren't extremely high,
and after paying associates' commissions I would
imagine Sears does not make a great profit. The out of
mall harware stores do not pay commission to their
associates, thus it would seem logical for Sears to weigh
this option. I'm in my last few months with Sears in
lawn and garden so it won't effect me, but for some of
those that work full time in these depts. it could mean
a drastic pay cut eventually if this becomes a
      reality.

      • seriously doubt that this will ever come to pass,
though i have seen it discussed on the boards before.
the reasons being that sears hardlines depts are true
destination centers for the store meaning that people
specifically come to buy in these areas vs just happen to stop
in while in the mall, thus the softline areas
benefit from the draw they give the store. sears will
continue to implement the smaller hardware stores and
dealer stores to intercept those that feel it is too far
to drive to get to a mainline store.
