Unfortunately he says it to the Brazilians. From his speech....
"We want to help you with the technology and support to develop these oil reserves safely. And when you're ready to start selling, we want to be one of your best customers."
Well Rspen why don't you ask eider yourself. By the way I can not really figure out why you got out of your investment in the Marcellus. It seems you were real exercised about it at the time. Im still there and not doing too badly. Should I be worried?
First of all President Obama did not say "drill baby drill". That is the point of view of the writer of the article you cite. The article is very partisan and is easy to take issue with.
And clearly Brazil doesn't need to be told to drill its own oil fields.
Let's take a look at the President't's statement as you quote it:
"We want to help you with the technology and support to develop these oil reserves safely."
I assume you would agree that the President at the beginning of his trip stated that a purpose of the trip was to stimulate trade and economic exchange. It is obvious in the above cited quotation, that the President is promoting our (US) technology to develop Brazilian oil fields. So is it really unfortunate that the President encourages the use of the drilling technology of US corporations in the development of the Brazilian oil fields? I don't think so and I think you missed the point.
Petrobas got US loan guarantees to drill for oil for us to import and increase our trade deficit while US companies can't even get permits. Sad
Dem and Pubs are different sides of the same coin. All they want is to be in the majority, no real desire to do the hard work to make things better for our children. If they are incumbent, vote them out. After a few cycles of that, maybe they will get the message. Support libertarian candidates when you can. It is past time we learned to help ourselves and quit expecting others to do it for us. Same for the rest of the world, let them save themselves, we are deep enough in debt already. No reasonw e should ahve to protect Europe and Korea and Japan so they can spend their taxes on improving their country while we steal from our children to pay for military to protect them. STUPID. We borrow money to give it away. STUPID. Rant over, go SSN
Scooterbug- I'll ignore the name calling, since it doesn't contribute to anything at all. But as far as your China assertion, I think you miss the point. Read carefully. The President is touting US technology and is plugging the expertise of our drilling industry being involved in the development of the Brazilian oil fields. I don't think your suggesting that the Chinese are better at drilling than we are. So what is the point?
