    • BRK has not done well for the last year -- it
does not mean that it won't do well in the future.
However, some industries become declining industries and
in that connection, we should recall the original
Berkshire Hathaway. All paradigms change, may be after 20
to 50 years sometimes. There was a time when the
railroads were the best stocks to own (and I am sure
Buffett would have invested in them in the 1920s if he
were to pick stocks then -- as he has invested in KO
and G now). Similarly, there was a time for steel
mills and chemical industries (for about 20 years). The
twenty year time period of KO and G may have come and
gone (not sure, of course but does not look as rosy).
However, Buffett might miss this paradigm shift and the
shareholders (like us) might suffer in the next 10 to 20 years
when this current BRK suffers the way, the old
Berkshire Hathaway did. So, my friends, it is possible that
Buffett will not make the Big Mac mistake once again but
who knows, he may be in the declining industries.
After all, he did sell MCD and seemingly Citicorp (WHY,
WHY, I have asked. He should explain.). So, sell at
least part of your BRK and diversify. Do not sell all
of it -- we all know that he is great. What do you
      think?

    • Chinese Spy drivel states:
      "Comparing Bill
Gates to WEB, it seems to me that Gates took
professional advice and sold some MSFT to diversify his
portfolio and reduce his own risk. WEB, on the other hand,
seems to not listen to professional advice. He is too
emotionally attached to his BRK shares."

      You get
funnier and funnier everyday. Who, pray tell, is the
world's greatest investor supposed to go to for
investment advice? Plus, WEB has some very public views on
diversification, i.e. it is nothing but protection against
ignorance. Mr. Buffett chooses not to act on ignorance, thus
he needs no protection from it.

    • The problem with the alternatives
CSCO,CMGI,EMC.MSFT,AOL etc. is that each of them presents certain high
risks. Each of them separately is far more dangerous
than BRKA. A lot of you won't
      remember High Voltage
      Engineering, Transitron, Scientific Data
      Systems, Cray
Research, Microwave Associates. They are gone gone.
      But
once upon a time they were ever so popular, the
      CSCO,CMGI EMC
etc. of their day. I suspect that a basket
      of CSCO etc. may
do somewhat better than BRKA but
even this basket does not offer
      the magnificent
solidity of BRKA. BRKA has a secret weapon----
      honesty.

steady appreciation (My A's less than 6K each).

        I
invest in my own techs, MSFT, LU, MSPG, PSIX, and
        ELNK.

Quit bashing WEB, be happy with BRK or get out.

      • .......if a customer came into your restaurant
every day to eat and then complained about your
cooking, wouldn't you eventually tell him to go eat where
he felt comfortable with the cook?.....WEB is what
he is.....what you see is what you get....I wish he
would embrace tech and pharmaceuticals, but I don't
think he will.....so I've had to come to peace with
        that fact......give it a try yourself.......or sell
        your BRK....

        P.S......the Europeans weren't
doing that hot 4000 years ago... in England and they
were building Stonehendge and agriculture was just
        getting established.....they planted grain to get drunk;
not to prevent famine....the beat goes on.....

      • You are helping to create an unprecedented
opportunity for which I thank you! At the present my equities
include about an 8% investment in BRK, which I plan to
increase to over 30% as opportunities avail themselves.
With your negative posts good help, I see the
possibility of attaining my 30% goal sooner then
        latter.

        Thank you again!!!!
