All this talk about Imus reminds me of a Charlie Munger Quote:

It's what he calls the "iron prescription":

"Every time you think that some person, or some unfairness is ruining your life, it is you who are ruining your life."

This was in the book "Damn Right!". He has talking about the victim mentality and how destructive it is.

    • its a an important and timely message The way to get out of poverty in this country has always been to roll up your sleeves, live a sober life, get an education and get to work.

That's all well and good until it doesn't apply. Take the Duke lacrosse players, they weren't ruining their own lives, someone else was.

So Munger's quote works well - until it is inapplicable and doesn't work.

      • That quote's insanely great. It's insanely true. It's similar to some other quotes I read recently, that basically we control our thoughts and interpretations of events, not the events themselves. Therefore, we have tremendous power over our reality, but we must control our minds to use this power. If our control slip and we become irritated, it helps to realize and to remind others that the irritating person is insane. Not insanely great. Just insane.
