SURVEY: Daily Show/Colbert Viewers Most Knowledgable, Fox News Viewers Rank Lowest
A new study by the Pew Research Study shows that viewers of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last.
Despite significant technology shifts, however, Pew found that “today’s citizens are about as able to name their leaders, and are about as aware of major news events, as was the public nearly 20 years ago.”
The results about Fox News echo findings of previous surveys. In 2003, a World Public Opinion/University of Maryland survey studied the public’s belief in three false claims — that Iraq possessed WMD, that Iraq was involved in 9/11, and that there was international support for the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.
The researchers stated, “The extent of Americans’ misperceptions vary significantly depending on their source of news. Those who receive most of their news from Fox News are more likely than average to have misperceptions.” Fox News viewers were “three times more likely than the next nearest network to hold all three misperceptions.”
Not defending FOX, they misrepresent as much if not more than other news media in this country, but I suspect this study is also skewed, so where are the survey questions, and supposedly correct answers?
I also have an issue with the third false claim, that there was no international suppport for invading Iraq. The facts are that there was international support for the Iraq invasion, as well as international resistance. To claim that there was no support at all is revisionist history, specially when one considers that polls prior to the invasion showed that 70% of the US approved of the invasion. That changed once we figured out what a cluster fu-k we'd gotten ourselves into. You don't get a 70% approval from FOX alone, the rest of the media (CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, the newspapers, you name it) were also complicit in the misinformation.
Wake up bud, it's not about FOX vs NBC, it's about all media in this country.
Here's a list of These 21 countries that were part of the coalition forces: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
The citizrns of those various "coalition" countries were overwhelming opposed to the invasion of Iraq. Their governments were coerced or bribed by the Bush administration. The UK had the largest demonstration in it's history (for any cause) against Bush's Iraq war plans.
