..........if this were true WEB would have to resign from the board of Coke wouldn't he? In past writings he's expressed great loyalty to Coke calling it one of BRK's "core holdings"
Pepsi is the biggest steal in the S&P500 right
now. Almost totally immune to economic forces such as
Asia, and with two of the dominant brand names in the
U.S. in Pepsi and Frito Lay. Regardless of that fact,
I know there are some things more important to WEB
than money, and one of them is the trust and respect
of Doug Ivester and the rest of the people at Coke.
Buying Pepsi is out of the question for WEB in my humble
He has said many times that he'll pass up a good
deal if he doesn't feel right about it, even if there
is easy money to be made. This fits into that
I think he would, if he thinks it is a good buy.
I don't think he would have to resign from the
board, unless somehow he gained a major stake it it
He has shown he doesn't mind holding
stocks of competitors, e.g., Dairy Queen &
(Although he sold some MCD, he stated at the annual meeting
he still has quite a bit of it, not enough to meet
the $750MM reporting criteria for the annual report)

didn't know we still owned any MCD. Thanks for the
Are McDonald's and DQ considered competitors? I'm not
too sure I'd agree with that. I mean they *do* both
sell hamburgers and ice cream, but somehow I perceive
that their major markets don't really overlap. I can
honestly say I've never asked my wife "Do you want to go
to McDonald's or DQ instead?".
I have asked
her do you want to go to "McDonald's and then DQ for
Actually, I usually ask my wife, "Do you want to go to Taco
Bell or get off your lazy vegetarian butt and cook us
something instead?" (Just kidding!!!)
some anecdotal evidence.... but the McDonald's's
around here have gotten really crappy lately. Ever since
the "Order Face to Face" thing was implemented I have
gotten really bad drive through service. As in 3 of the
last 3 times I've been to McDonald's they've screwed
up my order.... and my wife had to go around the
other day because they screwed up her order too. This
is at a couple of different Mickey D's too.
know most of you probably NEVER eat at McDonald's...
being multibillionaires and all... so I'm just letting
you in on the "word on the street". ;)
