    Then how has BRK gained 24% a year for 35 years
    while the separate stocks (while held) have appreciated
    at a substantial smaller rate?

    There's just a
    small part left out here and that is the float produced
    by having insurance funds at no cost each
    year.

    And that's about a third of Berkshire's
    performance.

    So Berkshire is certain to do better than the market
    over time. It is a simple concept that brain dead's
    don't grasp.
