I noticed that Charlie Munger, over the past
several months, has been giving away or selling some of
his BRK.A shares. Only a very small percentage. Is
this an age-related move or is he losing interest in
Berkshsire? Has anyone read anything?
Unless someone has an unforseen emergency, I
would hope all Berkshire holders can keep their stock
through to retirement. However, the ability to arbitrage
back and forth without tax penalties in a Roth IRA
account looks pretty appealing to me. (Not that I have
enough B shares to convert into an A. Maybe someday.)
Why not? If BRK (and other value
investements)were flat versus the S&P for the past year or two he
surely has the potential to outperform. In my simplistic
"model" if he does that for awhile I will probably sell
on the asumption that value investors will go flat
again. Does this make sense to anyone else?
Fair enough. Those are all good reasons for
putting a B share in an IRA. However, I cannot imagine
why anyone would sell his Berkshire before
retirement... I mean, aren't we all long-term buyers and
holders here? :-)
If its just $100,000,000 worth, this is probably
another one of his short-term holdings. (Just
$100,000,000!) It seems to me that Buffett does pretty regularly
change his non-core holdings. He loves reporting gains
from sale of appreciated stock.

Message 18663 is my closest guess, based entirely
on the text of the link that Bennie posted. However,
without doing some tedious checking, given only my
reading and benkea's, I'll take benkea's. It's no big
whoop to me, I think the FDC part is the biggie...
Maybe Warren is going to announce that he suddenly
"understands" the internet?
