    unintended consequences

The government has announced a cash for appliances program that will begin the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010.I talked with a lady who said if her dishwasher broke today she would do dishes by hand until she could qualify for the rebate on a new dishwasher. The earnings coming out in Oct. and Jan. will be negatively affected by this mindset in the american consumer. They will not buy today if they believe they will benefit from waiting. Most don't know the program is months off.Appliance purchases will drop off until the program begins in three or four months. So will reported earnings. These are the unintended consequences of the government announcement.
