    Hey dividendseeker!

    Thanks for your inputs on MAIN on this board. The payout ratio for Main is a whopping 63%, while the financial sector averages 15% to 20%. You have any thoughts on this? Jus' wonderin'

    • My first thought on that is 75% or so of the financial sector is banks which have been destroyed in earnings power for the past 4 years. They have been coming back but are no where near where they were. The new stricter capital ratios required and lower leverage they are allowed to carry have prevented them from paying out or growing earnings and dividends. Add that to the fact that as a BDC operating under the RIC structure of the 1940 SEC act, MAIN is limited to the amount of cash they can carry on their books and have to return it to shareholders or risk losing their status as a RIC.
