you all do of course realize that ETFC is trading more than 35% BELOW a company that is seriously looking at going BK BY THE END OF THIS MONTH!!! if this isn't a screwy market i don't know what one is;
off topic, but hey GM, here's an idea: why don't you build a car someone would actually want to buy????
I have this debate regularly with a friend of mine that is in upper mgmt at GM. I actually started my career at GM many years ago. My thoughts:
1) The sedans suck. The fleet car concept with the rental agencies was a marketing disaster. They did it because of 2 below.
2) Their fixed costs have always been a problem so their answer has been produce no matter. Idling capacity doesn't save them anything.
3) They do make fine trucks and suv's. However, they once again got blindsided by high oil prices. To me that isn't excusable. Should have hedged somehow - it almost BK'd them when the Japanese entered the market. History repeats (oops) - high oil hurt our demand (no duh).
4) Let em go. The US needs cars as somebody will come in and fill the void. You won't lose all the jobs but it will be PAINFUL.
