And I thought my Dr. was out of the loop.............

I did my research and saw that the Hep C triiple therapy treatment results with telaprevir were better than boceprevir. I met with my Gastro last year and discussed the comparison but he cautioned about the rash problem with telaprevir, but said that it was my choice on which one to use. I delayed starting the treatment and recently decided to go ahead with it in January. I met with my Gastro again week before last and again asked about using telaprevir instead of Boceprevir. He flat out told me if I wanted to use telaprevir as the third drug I would have to find another Dr. to oversee the treatment. I asked him why and he said he had been "involved" with two patients that had been hospitalized over using telaprevir as the third drug and the outcome from the rash problem was "very serious". The way he said it was very ominous. I took it as the patients died and he was being sued.

This Dr. is one of the leading and most respected Gastronomy Dr.'s in our town that has a metro population of over 2 million.

The box warning came about for some reason. Vertex must have some very serious legal problems to need to do that. I would not be surprised if a class action law suit is in the works, especially if they didn't properly disclose the number of fatalities from using Telaprevir or misrepresented trial tests.

Sidebar: I do not have a financial stake in VRTX long, short or otherwise.

      • Chevy,What you state sounds rational, but look at Piper's note today:

"After the FDA forced Vertex to place a warning regarding fatal and non-fatal serious skin reactions on the boxes containing its INCIVEK HCV treatment, Piper Jaffray expects sales of the drug to decline further. The firm maintains a Neutral rating on the stock"

There had to be something that happened for the FDA to force Vertex to black box a warning now,the drugs been on the market for well over a year. Are you thinking the above Piper note is not true. IF so ,Vertex has grounds for a huge lawsuit against Piper.
