First they announce they are closing the Pasadena test center and moving (who wants to move) to either Sacramento, Tustin, or Chicago.
Then we hear a rumor they're shutting down transport NOC in Sacramento.
Then we hear they are moving RCMAC etc down to Pasadena.
If even 1 person can explain to me how this all makes sense I'm willing to listen!
Oh, and those that don't move are surplus...they've also offered ESRO (volunteer seperation) and ERB.
13 service techs were surplused here in louisville ky 1st qaurter. In light of all the folks retiring and positions not being backfilled, we were working forced overtime and several blocks of 13 days in a row with one day off(my point is we havent slowed down here locally). The reason for the layoffs in the Southeast region is that our contract got "tentavely agreed" upon and the Premise Tech title couldnt be. Therefore the company pulled all of the premise work including adsl work(that st's used to do) on customers side of dmarc and will contract it out (atleast rumor has it). To my knowledge represented employees responsibility for customer service will be to the NID only. I have a hard time seing this contract rattified! Just my opinion.
I don't know about the surplus but I got a request to "show interest" in a vsb here in AT&T California.
I'm a 38-year tech and the payoff was (and I can only remember one level) 53 weeks pay for anyone who was selected with 25+ years.
They also made mention of anyone taking the vsb would immediately be replaced by a surplussed employee regardless if the surplussed employee could tie their shoes or actually spell their name.
That I got- and trashed. The hammer will fall hardest on middle managers- who have seen no replacements for attrition from voluntary retirement, disability, and disciplinary termination for years at this point.
I have not seen any press releases about the layoffs .. starting to think that this one is tryng to be done under the table at the holidays. Havent even seen one from the CWA either.
Employee morale is the worst ive ever witnessed right now, it seems everyone you talk to is very upset.
Company has black eyes over the VZ crap and the IPhone.
The southeast region contract ratification will be interesting.. most of the outside forces are going to vote it down.
I feel bad for those who got a layoff notice and hope that people that are ready to go and are able to.. will get a package to do so and save some jobs. Life certainly is not about AT&T ..go enjoy it.
