    unemployment over 16% dismal ratings

Apparently you can pick and choose if you're the government. They release economic and labor stats all the time that are adjusted over the following weekend when no one is paying attention.

So which group that does statistics well are the ones that release all these stats that have to be revised within a week?

If they are so good, why can't they get them right the first time the release them?

    • Statisticians perform a variety of procedures on the data to come to their estimates for the whole population. They also track down stragglers. But the information they collect is timely, and for that reason they release preliminary results in a timely manner.

The people who use this data to make actual business decisions understand this (or should), and adjust their expectations accordingly. Other people exploit this practical limitation for purely political reasons, or simply out of ignorance.
