Is AT&T a utility or tehnology company (i.e. T versus DUK)?

There are several important factors to consider:

    I. Current credit rating: S&P rates T as A- while DUK is rated as BBB+.

II. T's growth rate is estimated to be 7.5% versus DUK at about 1 to 2 percent,

III. Current yield: 5.36 for T and 4.76 for DUK

IV. ETFs: Technology ETF XLK has T as its largest holding while the utility ETF EXU has no AT&T holdings among its top ten.

    V. AT&T has no environmental issues related to carbon/coal while DUK has monumental problems in converting from coal to whatever.

    Conclusion:

While AT&T is perceived to be a utility, in reality it is a technology company with a whopping dividend payout.
