I belong to the cwa1298/Connecticut which has to be the worst union on the planet...can someone tell me the steps to stop paying my union dues.....hers just 1 example...me and my coworkers filed a grievance 6 years ago about contractors doing our job and working all of our overtime...well 2 days after the contract was approved by a vote of 900 to 640 ...att decided to cancel the arbitration date which was the next date and my union the cwa said sure...but they never requested a new date. This date was set up 10 months ago....this union and its executive board are the worst of the worst and its time to hurt them in the pocketbook...we have over 100 grievants who want to do the same...thanks
Quit, if you think you are making the money that they are paying you because you are so good, you should be able to make more somewhere else. Reality is you would not be making half the money if the union had not have negotiated the contracts over the years. Go ahead smart guy, quit. Bet you won't, cause you know the truth and your gonads are small anyway.
You have the right to be refunded any part of your dues that goes for political activity. You may have to go to court to get it though. I'll bet you have an "Agency Shop" and are required to pay dues whether a member or not. I had quit the union prior to retiring. Just a few months before I retired I found out about having political funds returned to me. I requested they do so. They simply ignored me. Should have sued the daylights out of them but was retiring and just didn't want the hassle.
There is very little that I can be proud of in California but this is one. The law in California allows all workers the right to designate an amount equal to their union dues be given to the charity of their choice instead of to the union. Circulate a petition to get it on the Connecticut ballot for 2014. Better hurry.
