They don't give out those Nobel Peace Prizes to just anyone.

In his 2007 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, Former US Vice President Al Gore cited the research of Professor Wieslaw Maslowski that predicted that the arctic would be ice free by the summer of 2013.

Professor Maslowski (at the time) told an American Geophysical Union meeting that "previous projections had underestimated the processes now driving ice loss".

Now fast forward to September of 2013 where it has been reported:

"A chilly Arctic summer has left nearly a million more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year – an increase of 60 per cent."

What? Not ice free by the summer of 2013. Sea ice growing not shrinking.

Oh dear! How can this be.

    And now I read:

"Some eminent scientists now believe the world is heading for a period of cooling that will not end until the middle of this century – a process that would expose computer forecasts of imminent catastrophic warming as dangerously misleading."

Oh no! Say it isn't so Al, the computer models might be wrong.

Wait a minute. What was that Al. Oh thank goodness.

"Global cooling is caused by humans, nothing has changed. Get another virgin for the volcano."

I should have known that the "Man Bear Pig" would be alive and well, and that there was nothing to worry about.

    • uh oh frogg .. Algore & the egg may be right ??

I did a search and learned that during the cretaceaus period there was vegetation in Australia .. and Australia & ANTARTICA were still joined at that time .. (forming East Gondwana).

The article also stated .. from scientific evidence, it was believed the average mean temperature for that region was between 0 & 8 degrees 'c' and dinosaurs were roaming freely.

It also stated that there were NO polar ice caps, North or South, during that period !!

SO, since there were no humans during that period to cause this condition (??) it must have been ALL of those DANG dinosaurs doing a helluva lot of EATING and "ferting" to cause that much 'Global-Warming' -- (DANGIT.. so ALGORE & The EGG were correct !!)

... Ref: search "South Pole Dinosaurs" - I used wikipedia for this info (interesting brief), but there were other option under that title search

      • Yes Jon, and it took 800,000 years of a very unique process to sequester enough carbon to lead to latest permanently frozen ice caps some 2.5 million years ago. You are looking at unloading this in a matter of a hundred years, through basically a reverse of that same process. (You do know what fossil fuels are, don't you?)

Does that not worry you just a little? Personally, taking a 3 million year jump back in geologic history within my lifetime does not seem very appealing.

I love you people. The dumbest bricks in building, yet you think you're the first person to discover that ice caps are rare in geologic history. This leads you to believe that global warming is nothing to worry about.

Intelligent people, on the other hand, realize how rare and fragile are the circumstances which allow our current happy existence. The earth is a tiny little ball of molten mush with a little bit of crust on top. It's atmosphere is a glimmering, volatile sheen on its surface. It may be worthwhile for us to take care of this little speck of galactic dust we call home.

      • "Unite Gondwana Land NOW!

      • And there you have it! The vast "right wing conspiracy" to pollute the planet and cause "man caused global warming" by the petroleum industry (that is owned and operated by rich white men) was conceived and started by a conspiracy of dinosaurs during the cretaceous period, who knew that their decaying bodies would supply the raw materials for the entire hydrocarbon and petroleum industry.

Makes you wonder whether those dinosaurs were members of the "Illuminati" or the "Bilderbergers"?

        ;)

    • Oh my! Oh no! Al say it isn't so!

On September 26 of this year the IPCC will present its summary of its AR-5.

Some of the leaked information from this report have been determined to be quite troubling, especially in the area of climate models.

The bigger problem for the IPCC is that global temperature has risen little or not at all in the last 10-20 years.

To its credit, the IPCC admits that “models do not generally reproduce the observed reduction in the surface warming trend over the last 10–15 years.”

The reason that this is important is because, if the models are incorrect for the most recent decades then any model that covers a century or longer will be suspect (i.e., the old garbage in garbage out paradigm)

For example when the average of the top 32 climate models (CMIP5) are compared to the actual temperature rise since 1980, they overestimate the actuals by 71 to 159%.

Further a new Nature Climate Change study shows that most of the climate models have produced estimates for the last 15 years that are off by more than 300%.

One can only hope that the average American never gets this information, because it sure would put a crack in that "settled science" idea that we keep hearing about.

    • ...“And now I read: ‘Some eminent scientists now believe’…” – frog boy

Well, the fact that you actually read is a start. The problem is, WHAT you read. Critically reviewed scientific evidence is not politically motivated mumbo-jumbo off the internet. You know that, and you know we’ve been through this multiple times. I post the evidence…then you shut up about it for awhile, than bring back your already debunked nonsense.

Now, I get that a lot of the political banter here is quite subjective…which is fine…but you guys just go too far in this day and age. People aren’t stupid…science cannot be subjective or it’s not science. You can argue many basics of politics and philosophy based on your own opinions, but when you turn to scientific fact to base them on, there is no room for chicanery.

Here’s the deal. I’ve posted statistics on global warming here two or three times. It gets old when you repeatedly ignore the world’s scientific organizations’ declarations. Why don’t you be an adult about this for once and find it for us and repost it. After all, I kindly reposted some of your earlier sage opinions today.

And then, we’ll make some kind of wager regarding your “eminent scientists.”

You make a list of every professional, scientific organization, domestic or international, who are on record with a position believing that humans have nothing to do with global warming. I’ll do the same with the opposite opinion (we can refine the parameters, i.e. co2, sources, etc.) …X amount for each goes to charity of the winner’s choice.

And if you really like this one, we can get back to the “who has multiple aliases” wager. And remember some track savvy…you can’t parlay it down the road if you blow it all on the first bet.

Hey, front row seats for Tedeschi-Trucks band this weekend (Grammy Blues Album of the Year, ’12)…the last time I sat in the front row, if memory serves me, was when Mrs. Baumgartel moved me there in the third grade…by the ear, I believe.

Uh, oh, the festivities start early around here…day’s early.

Yes, people are stupid or we would not have the President and the corruption in government we have today.
Furthermore, how many times has 'science' altered their opinions or scientific ‘facts or findings’ over the years?

Much of science is very similar to economics...if ask one hundred scientists for an opinion, you will get at least that many different opinions. Science is not all FACT, much of it is assumption that if X happens, Y will result. They change the 'facts' when X happens and Y yields a different result.

Science evolves all the time as new information is found or assumptions change based on new data.

I watched two noted scientist just last week addressing the fact that this is the latest date on record that we have not had a hurricane. Last year it was predicted that global warming would increase the number and severity of hurricanes this year. Now they are saying that global warming is the reason we are NOT having as many hurricanes this year. Global warming is getting the blame if it follows the latest 'assumptions' or predictions if you like that term better, and it is getting the blame when those predictions aren't realized.

You can't have it both ways.

      • "Whose bread I eat, whose song I sing." Follow the money and you can tell who is pulling anyones strings. That includes alledged "Scientists."

      • Very interesting post, and I especially found your statement "science cannot be subjective or it’s not science..." interesting.

So what kind of science is based on models that are found to be in error because they only use data that support the man caused global warming hypothesis and ignore data that are considered non supportive.

I assume that you are of the opinion that global warming is caused by the introduction of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by humans.

Further, I assume that you are also of the opinion that this is settled science, and because of this, no further investigation or inquiry is required.

As you know my opinion is different. I am of the opinion that the man caused global warming hypothesis is not settled.

Further, while I do find the IPCC's Assessment Reports interesting, I submit that because they are based on erroneous data in so many instances their findings have been found to be unreliable.

Case in point are the 1500 changes that have been requested by governments that support and finance the IPCC because they say the current draft fails to properly explain the current pause in global warming that started in 1998.

Therefore I am inclined to also use the CCRs of the NIPCC as another resource for climate change information and study, primarily because they are peer reviewed by 31,000 scientists that include 9,000 PhDs.

Finally I am of the opinion that clean air and clean water is something that everyone can support, regardless of politics, but I am also of the opinion that the jury is still out on the impact on the earth's climate by human caused carbon dioxide.

      • I read a study that all our trips to the moon and driving around in the moon rover has raised the temperature on the moon a staggering 0.00000000001%. It also left track marks that will take Millions of years to dissappear. I wish we hadn't done that!

Going to go see The Tubes tomorrow. Can't wait! Talk to ya later!

    • Do you actually believe this or do you just find it interesting?

This article by David Rose in the UK Daily Mail (a British tabloid) was thoroughly debunked almost before it hit the stands.

All you have left are lies. And for what? What do you gain by making grossly false statements? What do you gain from lying about the science and the claims of scientists, or cherry-picking outlier claims from the vast body of scientific work on the subject?

What we do know is that 2012's ice layer was historically low--the lowest on record by a wide margin. 2013 is higher, but still far, far below historical norms. And the ice cover that is there is thinner and thinner.

This should worry you. This should worry any reasonable person.

      • Correct lewcor .. the last time this topic came up I went to NOAA and pulled up the salelite image of Antarctica. This also has a motion feature that can be activated, which was quite interesting.

It showed ocean surface ice (currently) building off to one side, it also shows the under-lying land mass and how the ice pack grows and contracts over time.
It also gives a brief history of past Antarctic .. the storms that are produced and how violent they can be - and how it can affect the weather for the entire world .. including Jet Streams etc. -- All just from Antarctica !!

And of course NOAA has their own scientists .. but seem to try to keep a neutral position to satisfy the man-made global warming scientific believers ..... after all, NOAA shouldn't poo-poo what thousands of (loudmouth) Liberal Academics believe :)

      • Ever hear of the Turkish Admiral in the 1500's that had a map of Antarctica that showed it with no ice at all? Satellites have shown the map to accurately prtray the shoreline as it would be with no ice. Gee, wonder where he got that map. And no ice? hmmm. I had a Scripps Inst. scientist show me mud cores taken from the ocean floor that show climate change going back 250,000 years. It has been much warmer and colder and wetter and dryer in the past than anything we have directly measured in the past few hundred years. This occurred long before man could have influenced anything. Did you know too that the outer planets have been warming for some time? Gee, must be those little green men in their SUV's. Check NASA on that idiot.
