    How Obamacare came to be:

From another board, this was posted in 2009:

I thought I would send your shareholders a message on why I am now in full support of a National Care Program.

I am a recently retired, financial Analyst who worked in the Securities business. Politically, I am an independent against big government and I sent letters to my Congressmen and Senators voicing my opposition to the TARP funding and advocating complete reform of the investment industry.

About five months ago, I enrolled in an Aetna Individual Advantage plan. Since that time I have been in good health and have made no claims. I have one overnight stay in a hospital in the last fifty years when I got my tonsils out. I am on no medications and have visited a doctor 3 times in the last 9 years for routine stuff.

Last week, I was shocked to receive a letter telling me that Aetna was raising my premiums by 23% just after 5 MONTHS time.

This is outrageous and borders on an illegal bait and switch tacit!!!!!

Over the last 10 years, the average health care premium has increased four times faster than wage growth and three times faster than inflation.

Clearly, you don't have to have a MBA from Harvard to realize this not sustainable. The higher health care premiums go, the fewer people can afford health care which then puts more pressure on pricing, in effect a slow death spiral!

As a result of this irresponsible action ,I did two things:

    1. I sent a letter to my Senators and Congressmen informing them of what Aetna is doing and I also voiced my support for a national health care program.

    2. I canceled my policy!

I fully understand that the job of corporate management is to maximize return to the shareholders. However, if management is so irresponsible that it fails to realize its actions in the long run will hurt the shareholders and the people of this country, then it deserves to be replaced either by the shareholders or a government run program! Less Less

Welcome to Obamacare. Huge increases came after Obamacare was implemented and had the greatest influence on the 10 year average. More increases on the way. Since you canceled your policy you need to enroll in Obamacare or be fined. Please keep us updated on your Obamacare policy compared to your old policy be honest about your out of pocket expenses (premiums and deductibles). Not a single republican voted for Obamacare the pain you feel is totally because of democrats

BS what MB keep their posts for 4 years, and who would wade through 4yrs of post to find this, what a bunch of #$%$. So a financial analysts cancels his insurance after retiring and now has no insurance at a point in his life when he is most likely to need it., yeah right. You liberals are so gullible you will believe anything Obama or the liberal press tells you.

      • "Welcome to Obamacare. Huge increases came after Obamacare was implemented and had the greatest influence on the 10 year average"

        ????

FYI, that post was from 2009 so the prior ten years were 2000-09, well before Obama and Obamacare.

Maybe it was too much to assume certain posters can read and count backwards?

    • It came to be because our 44th American President negotiated and compromised, accepting a republican health plan over single payer. Go look it up.
Law is law, there is no grade of how much. If you don't like it, go through normal lawful means, not hostage take America and hurt veterans, children, etc.

      Sentiment: Buy

    • Obummercare came to be because the Dumbo controlled both House andnSenate with the Bummer as president. Its a a power grab by , pure and simple. Innovation in healthcare will go south. Healthcare workers will be indifferent inI the future. Healthcare as a govt entity will follow the path of other govt run entities like the postal service. The abyss is coming folks and you libtards don't see it.

      • Van is right on; the hospital healthcare structure will be like the Post Office with employees more and more unable to read blood pressure readings and such just like postal workers can't read addresses. people will be dropping dead in line (except for illegals and welfare folks move to the front of the line and get a coupleo of new voter IDs)

      • ...“The abyss is coming folks and you libtards don't see it.” – vanzinf

The abyss is coming indeed, but it’s YOU who doesn’t see it.

“Under more typical circumstances, President Obama wouldn’t be too thrilled with his 47-percent approval rating here. But compared to House Speaker John Boehner (17 percent), Sen. Ted Cruz (14 percent), the Republican Party (24 percent), and the tea party (21 percent), Obama’s number in the NBC/WSJ poll is positively stratospheric.” – Christian Science Monitor

        The party’s over, Alice.

    • For the teabaggers and the Republicans. Try reading this passage again real slow without moving your lips this time and remember this was posted four years ago:

"Over the last 10 years, the average health care premium has increased four times faster than wage growth and three times faster than inflation.

      • To the "flea bag liberals" that are stupid enough post "someone elses" message from 2009 !!

YOU 'read' it real slow, AND you SHOULD move your LIPS .. it may help help you !! But most of all, roll it around in your empty skull - who cares about your lack of comprehension for today's ACA compared to 2009 !!

You're talking about average healthcare premiums "over the last 10 years" ??

Well how coincidental, that's when Bill Clinton (2003) introduced HIS Goverment TAKE-over of our Healthcare System (aka HillaryCare) ... which was first rejected by all in the Industry, along with the objectionable plans from Dem's & Rep's (2004)

But since then, the Insurance Industry realized " hey, wow, goverment mandates would be a windfall for us" - and they have slowly been PUMPING MONEY, first into Hillary's (2006) Senate seat, then to the Obama Campaign (and other Democratic Leaders)

Again, I'll refer to the (key word) "HillaryCare" search from Wikipedia .... get smart, enlighten yourself !!

This ObamaCare is for 15% of the U.S. population (per Obama's QUOTE) .. so why penalize the remaining 85% with a Govt mandate .. then the path forward to "a single payer plan" and we start losing our choices at that point ... ASK Canada ???

There are other ways to combat the rising costs from the Insurance Industry .. if the Govt would use their BRAINS instead of their political GREED !!

      • To all the teabaggers, republicans, health care hos, cake eaters, etc:

Hopefully none of you will contract a serious illness causing your provider to triple your rates or just drop your insurance.

If you don't like that then you can ESAD!

      • Know who wrote "Obamacare?" The very people estupidos complain about. Know who's going to make all the money from forced membership? Again, those that wrote the bill. It DID NOT originate in the house as legitimate bills are supposed to but by outside interests. None of the stooges that voted for it had even read it. I have a stack of incomprehensible "information" telling me my "benefits." My aditional payment has already jumped 20% this year with more on the way.

    • WELL .. if you want to KNOW how it really "came to be" (1993), and they tried to pass it in 1994 !!!

Then known as "HillaryCare" or H.S.A.(Health Security Act) - but it was really "BillaryCare", a one thousand page document that 'backfired' on the Clintons back then - but now known as the 2000 page ObamaCare Law !!

.. Just SEARCH "HillaryCare" (1993) and see the WIKIpedia "short read" history (till today's ObamaCare) .....

Including it's quiet resurgence, starting in 2006 by Hillary - adopted by Obama in a "Billary 2008 Deal" !!

Hey, jobs be damned and was never intended - they wanted us to have OBAMACare, to lead us to a "single-payer System !!
      _________________________________

BTW - Obama forced to COMPROMISE over the National Debt ... he didn't volunteer - Fact !!
Bill Clinton got smacked in the face (back then) over the Debt Ceiling & Spending too - when he found out BONDS were the only thing that "could stop" his spending habits - FACT
EXAMPLE "Today" =... recent short term Treasury Auction just netted less than (or about) 2.5% , weren't many sold ....YET bunches are being redeemed at about 3.5% !!

That's when his second term "forced him" towards some fiscal responsibility .. (then) cooked the # and showed a surplus at the end of his sesond term !!

    • The health care industry is dysfunctional, inefficient, out of control and greedy. A threat to the well being of this country. If the industry could not reform itself should we let it bankrupt individuals and this country?

      • 2 Replies to chuckie_thes
      • No, the health care industry is not out of control, well it is, but not as bad as the health insurance business. Rather than try to regulate the insurance business in a way that still left them profit but helped those paying the premiums, Obama and crew decided to fully destroy the insurance industry over a few years and make more and more people dependent on the government.

Heath care costs, being the prices charged by the doctors and hospitals were a function of the corruption between those two entities and the insurance carriers. Those three also colluded in various ways to corrupt and bleed Medicare and Medicaid in ways the government in their vast knowledge of medicine and insurance never saw coming.

Obamacare will go the same direction. Those with the intent are already planning and devising ways to fraud the system in the worst ways and our every friendly government minions don't have a clue and won't have the staff or dollars to prevent it. The IRS will be too busy catching those that don't sign up and no one will be looking for those that take unfair advantage of the system. Such is the way of nearly every government funded, excuse me taxpayer funded, and government planned process.

Many people believe that the taxes and increased costs of the ACA will further weaken our economy but it won’t be a gnat on an elephants butt compared to the fraud and corruption costs.

      • They are also funding the teabaggers 24/7
