    Christmas wishes

    To my Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2014, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country, nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere .

This wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

    To My Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. In God We Trust & God Bless America!

    • Shortly after Christmas last year my wife was proud of the steep discounts she received on Christmas items. She didn't look at the cards closely and noticed when she got home that one box wished recipients Happy Holidays. We pitched them.

Merry Christmas folks. If offended, just use the ignore feature.

You pitched them…Really? How thoughtful. Who in their right mind buys any kind of card without reading what it says? (This sounds like another Mom in the nursing home fabrication.) Oh, gee, I was going to a wedding and grabbed a card. The newlyweds opened it to find “Our Deepest Condolences”…I’m so embarrassed!)

You pitched them…Really? You could have taken them back, and exchanged them or received a refund…but I guess in your own confused mind, you thought you were somehow making a political statement. Outside of you telling this silly tale here, what did you accomplish by throwing them away, besides wasting another tree?

You mean you have absolutely no one else that you associate with who is not Christian? It’s uncanny that you either don’t know, or more likely, that you don’t care, that many other religions have celebrations around the winter solstice.

That’s the problem with you people…you need to force your beliefs down everyone else’s throats. What if your doctor, lawyer, accountant, neighbor, school teacher, whatever, happens to be Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Shinto, Muslim, again whatever…would it kill you to send them a generic holiday greetings of good will? We have Xmas cards and others that wish the “magic of the season” or something that doesn’t send your preferred message of subjugation. As intolerant as you are, you’d probably go ballistic if you received a Hanukkah Card from someone, but you have no problem doing it in reverse…or, more likely, you simply don’t know anyone who isn’t just like you…an old, cranky, white, intolerant fundamentalist.

Oh, and a word to the wise…your wife may shop for cards like George Costanza did his wedding invitations, but that doesn’t bode well for you in the long run. Based on your premise, you’ve probably never seen Seinfeld, so, if you know anyone who isn’t anti-Semitic, ask them. Some of those really cheap cards come with an antidote. Happy Festivus, t.b. If offended….

    • And may GOD bless you and your also.
