Farmers do not set the price, that is why. In fact farmers are getting even less now for their stock because the feedlots are getting pressed by the cost of grain to finish the cattle.
We buy grassfed from a local rancher. They are able to set the price only because they market directly to the consumer. Down here they are already having to feed hay because it has been so dry. So it is getting pretty bad.
DYODD but watch cattle futures. They should slide and at some point this fall/winter would be a good time to buy. Barring that people in the US can still afford beef.
