Re: GUESS WHAT IS UP FOR SALE

I heard Microsoft is planning to make an unsolicited offer for DIS.

    • It seems highly unlikely to me that a software company would buy an integrated media company. I don't see any logic in it at all not to mention that I'm sure Microsoft would like to hold on to their $30B plus cash hoard until they're out of the woods completely with legal issues.

I would think Microsoft would be more interested in forging strong alliances with Disney on games and tie ins than owning the company outright.

I agree. Microsoft had fiercely resisted moving even into the "computer" (hardware) market. They only recently unveiled their first piece of hardware (the X box).

So to imagine that such a focused "non-media" company would all of a sudden buy up about 1/3rd of the nation's media business, just sounds like a bunch of hype to me.

But I maintain that the best thing that could happen to strengthen the Disney brand, is for them to sell out...not merge...to another company and change the corporate name to something other than Disney.

Reason being is that Disney...the brand and name...is best served by being associated with great family movies, world class theme parks, and related magical merchandise. And not so much with glamourizing heroin use (Pulp Fiction), the promotion of child porn-dealing internet executives (Patrick Naughton), and the ridiculing of Catholics (Dogma), and people who are different (Bubble Boy), and African Americans (Black-Hoe radio contest by Disney owned station).

Someone else needs to own all these non-Disney branded, Disney tarnishing entities, even if also owning Disney.

When Disney sticks to making simple fun (Princess Diaries, Monsters, Inc., Snow Dogs) they do extremely well and all without controversy and turmoil.

Disney should change the name, either through a sale or reorganization, of the corporation and keep the name "Disney" only for quality family entertainment such as the parks. But as it is, Disney owns and controls thousands of strange radio stations and studios that make very racy movies.

what you say is true, but also remember that the convergence between games and movies becomes closer all the time.
software and bandwith are the key
