I am not Wall Street savvy! Can someone answer a question?
Are there any specific numbers or a particular formula that would indicate an upcoming split? The last split was July 10, 1998 (3 for 1), the price was $30.00 per share. The split before that was May 18, 1992 (4 for 1), the price was $12.08 per share. It has been 14 years since last split, and the present price is $50.00 per share. I may be way off base; but, I am inexperienced financially, and curious. Thank you in advance. John
Over the last years, the fad of splitting stocks has faded on Wall st. there is a bit more prestige about having a higher price. stocks that fall under 25 are looked upon in a bit more of a negative light so the incentive to split by the company isn't really there. If a split is going to come, you generally see a strong surge in buying volumes in the months ahead of the split announcement. this is happening with Dis but i suspect its more about profits and growth than hopes for a split.
The price of disney on the last split was over a $100 a share. the Split before that was about $120 a share Disney won't split until it reaches over a $100 and the Board of Directors will feel it is necessary. I was involved in the last split.
So if history repeats itself you have a long wait.
