Lucasfilm - Disney's lamest buy yet

As a huge Star Wars fan I am split down the middle on this aquisition. For decades Lucas said that he didn't want Star Wars to be in the hands of executives at a corporation which is why he never took Lucasfilm public on it's own. Now, that's exactly where it is. It could not be about the money as the guy has more than enough money to last his grandchildren's grandchildren many lifetimes. I think at the end of the day he wanted to sell to someone that he was comfortable with and his cozy relationship with Disney made his decision a no-brainer. The guy is almost 70 and he wanted to make sure that his franchise was in good hands when he retires. Getting $4 billion is just icing on the cake.

Going forward, let's hope Disney can revitalize the Star Wars brand which to me has gone stale over the past decade or so. At the end of the day it is a smart aquisition for Disney as the merchandising arm alone is worth a fortune. My biggest fear as a fan is that we'll end up seeing a new trilogy that looks more like Twilight than Star Wars. I hope I'm wrong.
