Disney until 2000 issued quarterly dividends. I believe the reason for the change to once a year is that a large number of holders have only a few shaers, probably held as certificates. These were gifts given to children and the payment was in checks. If the checks are not cashed, this creates an accounting burden for the company, and the expense of preparing and mailing a $2 check is a waste. I would like to see an increase in the dividend, but I think boosting to $1 a year is too much right now. The cash holdings were depleted with the Lucas purchase and the company needs to be solid with economic environment developing. The film business is still very erratic in results, and it's good for the company to hold a fair amount of cash in case it releases a couple of big losers back to back. I'm hoping for 10-20 cents increase and that it can continue at that rate for a long time.
