Why does EQU pay a dividend??

IMO a company of this size can better use funds for growth.I've only owned the stock a few months so I can't
evaluate management performance however it does seem to be run more like a private company with no concern of shareholder rights.Maybe if the price crosses the five dollar plateau it will show up on the radar more!!!

    • The dividend was the "Bone" thrown to share holders hungry for some change in what has been described as a self serving CEO and BOD. The div was an outcome of the so called Strategic Review to Enhance Shareholder value conducted from May to Dec last year. The Strategic Review IMHO was a delaying tactic by the CEO and BOD to hold off dissident share holders who had publically been gaining ground in demanding change in Equals distribution of the fruits of the enterprise. IMHO the shedding of debt and retrenchment into the Hunton only low risk, high reward asset base was mostly to derisk the cash flow that insiders have been feeding on for many years and the dividend was a shareholder distraction from that situation.

    • Not answering your problem, but because of the topic heading, x-div date is this Thursday Aug 29, n'est-ce pas? Paid to those who own it on Sept 2, so I guess it's not a holiday in Canada; and 15% is deducted for Canada tax.
