I caught the tail end of a Cramer discussion on Mad Money today(10/16/2013) in which Paradox was mentioned as a potential big mover oil play. I'm not a Cramer fan, but it's the first mention of Paradox I've heard outside of MDU reports/presentations.
Cramer was interviewing the CEO of Core Labs, a company that uses high tech to survey energy plays. Very successful company that has brought high tech to the oil patch. CEO mentioned Paradox as an area where they were doing work for some clients to determine prospects. I know there is a company, Bill Bennett, that has a large position in the Paraqdox, but has not devoted much CAPEX to drilling.
There have been a few monster paradox wells, one by MDU. But it has been very difficult to get consistent results. I still have some PTSD from paradox due to what happened with DPTR when they had such promise they permitted and built a pipeline and then had 7 dusters in a row, (more clogged with salt than dust) that they couldn't produce. The most promising well they ruined trying to put a liner into the curve into the lateral. DPTR was biggest loser of my investing career - thankfully it wasn't a huge position, but I took a flier on it as a special situation/turnaround play, in part on promise of paradox basin. The flier crashed and burned.
