The Sheraton at JFK did not double prices. the Capitol Gang (The Gang that can't shoot straight) was wrong.
It is amazing how much false information has been presented by the media this week, and even more amazing that seemingly smart people fall for it (i.e. gas shortage, survivors from wreckage on Thursday, and yes, hotels raising prices).
GET THE FACTS! Just because some talking head said it does not make it true.
I am very good friends with a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee (an oxymoron?). Although he shares no state secrets with me, he did tell me that what the media is reporting is largely BS. His advice, unless you heard it directly from an official, do not believe it.
Starwood has been more than generous this past week allowing cancellations with no penalties worldwide, extending free stay promos and cooperating with the FBI with regards to its Boston Westin property.
Please get the facts before you condemn anyone or any company.
So, we are to expect HOT to come out and admit gouging? Please.........
How generous for them to offer no cancellation penalties when people cannot get there and spend money in the first place--like they had a choice?--Especially when most ccl policies are 6:00 PM day of arrival and it was clear that the air traffic system was going to be down for an extended period of time well in advance of that time---even on the East Coast. Plus, every other airline and hotel chain extended this courtesy. How would it look if they did not do at least what every one else offered? Would it look as bad as gouging the American public during a state of national emergency?
And how nice of them to cooperate with the FBI---like they has a choice? Was this BS press release supposed to make shareholders feel better than HOT was not impeeding the hunt for terrorists who just committed the largest act of mass murder in US history? Please.......
No, they had captive audiences in a number of locations and they are said to have taken advantage of them. If these allegations are SO untrue why has not Starwood put out an OFFICIAL press release denying the allegations? Answer: because they can't.
Get the FACTS, yourself---not just the BS that the company is trying to peddal in the face of a massive haircut to their earnings.
Please post any credible proof of this and you may have something to complain about! Supply and demand is the very basis of what this country is about. Have you looked at the price of fuel lately? Electricity? Beanie Babies or Power Rangers? Obviously whatever business you are in does not consider making a profit essential criteria to surviving. How much free stuff has your company given away this past week? Please take your BS somewhere else. I am more concerned about the stock price and the entire hospitality industry.
Nice logic....if they cared "how it would look" then do you really think they would "gouge". Think about it, if you can.
It's obvious you don't know much about the hotel biz or HOT specifically. Many of their properties have cancellation policies of 48 and 72 hours.
Some properties are company owned and managed, some are not. Corporate would have no control over short term rate matters.
It's obvious you don't know much about law enforcement with respect to hotel properties and the very interesting landlord/tenant relationship that exists in Mass. hotel properties.
It's obvious the facts don't mean much to you....you are asking a company to dispprove an allegation? Sounds like the Taliban to me. I think you have the burden of proof.
I'm surprised you think there is going to be a haircut to earnings...I mean..after all, they have been charging millions of dollars per room per night...if you really beleive in the gouging, shouldn't that provide a great quarter of earnings?
What do I think happened, and again I say "think" because I have yet to hear anyone who actually stayed there tell me what happened? I think as rooms filled up the last remaining rooms were sold at the predetermined, computer loaded rack rate. That's no more gouging than when the Super Bowl is in town.
I do suppose from your logic and your wanting to believe the worse that you probably have a garage full of bottled water and canned food from Y2K. Admit it...deep down inside you still feel a little silly about that, don't you?
Do us a favor, don't buy any HOT. I want it now at this cheap price. Don't stay in any of their properties, that way I increase my odds of being bumped to a suite, and what do you say we meet back here in a year and compare notes?
And thanks again for the laugh...those have been in short supply lately!
