Look, every time you reply to the spammers, you move their message back to the front page.
Your replies to the spammers increases visibility for their messages. For all intents and purposes, your replies are increasing the number of spam messages appearing on the board.
I'm starting to wonder if you are in cahoots with them, because the only messages I ever see from you are bumped up spam messages.
Just flag their messages as abuse and then put them on ignore.
Everybody should learn to do that, and to NOT reply to the spammers.
I don't think hollis.pc is in cahoots with spam, his intentions are well-meaning, but I agree with you about the bumps they get every time anyone replies to them.
All it really does is takes them to the front of the line, and gets others to pile on, which is exactly what they want. I get that hollis (and the rest of us) are fed up with them, but they are a disease with no permanent cure. The best way to deal with them, since Yahoo won't do it, is to mark them with "Ignore User". Even that "let Yahoo know ..." doesn't work. I flagged a freak with a legitimate "report Abuse, Harmful to Minors" and they took no action.
Hands down, best offense against them is "Ignore User" with no response. They drift away quickly on an active board and it takes more work for them to re-post to get back on page one.
In fact, one step further, take the campaign to the repeat offenders who post only childish bs and who get their jollies attacking people with grade school provocations. You know who they are "biatches", mameen, uh_huh_oh_yea, chimp, the whole pack of them. Attention-hungry trolls.
Seriously, agqorzsl is right. Ignore User and attention deprivation are the best tools we have. Use them early and often.
warhead, last night I suggested instead of fighting you use the ignore. I said you were smart. You responded, "Guilty, man. You are right. I actually have these clowns on Ignore. I just, I don't know, I fight a lot." There are plenty of us who have tired of opening a post and seeing fighting, bulling, belittling. But the impact of your actions and those of others is permitted. You have no idea how exhausting these confrontaions are on the rest of us. It's like our own personal spammers. And like children any who challenge this behavior are immediately put on, called names and bullied. (You'll see when I post this. None of them have the will power. To not respond means I have power over them, or so it would seem. I don't, of course.)
You "don't think hollis.pc is in cahoots with spam..." You, me and everyone else knows he is the definition of anti-spam. Since taking on the spammers his computer has been attacked. He fortunately knows a good IT man who built him his own firewall on two hard drives. Would you go to that expense for your convictions? If you go to B of A or FB you will see loads of spam, and no one does anything. Now go to ZNGA back in Nov/ Dec. Lots of spam. Not so much today. And less then almost every other financial board. His efforts and the efforts of others are making an impact.
Now, you and others have told him to ignore the spam. That if he did the spam would not be seen. If you followed your own advice you wouldn't see his posting of spam or the spammers. Bottom line, it would seem he is just being picked on. But I'll tell you what, your boys do no more fighting, name calling, bulling, be vulgar and I'll get hollis to stop.
I met him over at MorningStar. Hard to believe he does well with investing. Two years ago he became fully focused on cell towers. Made some huge coin. Now he's branching out of his comfort zone with ZNGA and Glu. Pure gamble to him, but I believe he'll make money.
You're a good guy & smart, warhead.
You know agq, why don't you go after the fools who a vulgar and angry, and the spammers. You know what I mean. Like the way you were last night. You callin' out hollis makes you pathetic. The guy's trying to make the board a better place. What are you doing to make it better? Yeah, pickin' on hollis. So much #$%$ out here and you take on the easiest target. So very impressing. Well, don't stop there come after me and forarmy and daxwang and the rest of us who are tired of spam and trying to do something about. hollis said you're offensive, pal you are so much more than that.
Yes, I'm the most visible, but I'm not alone. There are plenty of others fed up with spam and the lack of Yahoo stepping in. Yes it does bump them up but it does little to encourage someone to cut and paste. So your speculation of me being in "cahoots" can be tossed in the trash. I find it offensive.
At the bottom of a financial page you can click on "Go." Do it. In the space for posting an idea type in large caps SPAM. Wait. A list will show of all suggestions dealing with spam. You will see many of mine as well as others tired of spam. I have been trying for several months to get Yahoo to act.
As for your generalizing that I post nothing but spam notes, you're wrong. Before making an accusation do a little research. Click my name. Yes, plenty about spam but I do contribute my thoughts and opinions. Again, I find your generalizing offensive. My attacks on spam posters is not an attack on you or your credibility. In fact, with the exception of the #$%$ you were giving to warhead last night, I find nothing to complain about with your posts.
You're an intelligent person. You know to make me disappear just click ignore. But I will not ignore the constant bombardment of spam. If more took action the companies paying for it would move on. Go to BAC or WFC or even FB. those boards are over whelmed with spam posts.
So, agqorzsl, either join the fight or step aside.
Chill man. Sincere props for your outrage and that you want to do something about it. But the man has a point. Responding to them just puts them right back in the spotlight in a hurry. I make the same mistake every time I respond to the brat pack of #$%$ I keep banging with. i lose my cool and give them what they want which is more attention. yes, I am going to do it again, but I am trying to police myself better and not be baited by the same old same old. You know the spam is not going to stop, so why allow it to stay on page one. I'm with you on the fight, but I really think that your best weapon is "Ignore User" and to do just that.
