It has taken thousands of years for mankind to develop a safe, reliable and plentiful food supply. I believe that without the use of modern farming technologies which include the proper use of herbicides/pesticides that something.... be it virus, insect, disease or something as yet unknown (my worst fear) will eventually lead to a devastation of our food supply. Something will be born that can spread and infect crops and livestock for which there may be no defense. I would like to leave a good thing well enough alone...Better yet to the farmers and others who know what they're doing.
Sounds like all of your ingestion of pesticides, herbicides, and toxic chemicals and hormones on your food have rendered your taste buds dead, if you prefer this over chemical free produce.
Walmart and the conventional industrial food suppliers are where you should be shopping then.
And make sure the obama supplies you with good doctors later on. Ha! Lots of luck with that one.
So we should bring back DDT? Cuz that is what we got when we left it up to the farmers and "others who know what they're doing".
I feel sorry for you if you are really that stupid.
maybe someday people will look at the growing population as a root cause and stop yammering on the fixing the symptoms.
I highly suggest reading Plan B, version 2 or 3....it's a free download if buying the book isn't desired.
PS, "plan b" annual cost to address all the world Sustainability issues was I think are about our current defense budget....I hate to compare it to our total bail out cost.
I too am concerned with a pandemic or bio based eco impact....nature is always last at bat.
I'm not too young to remember. DDT is persistent on treated surfaces for months. It is non-selective and kills beneficial insects along with the undesirables. It is also toxic to birds and runoff into lakes and streams is also toxic to fish. And I never said we should bring it back. It is however being used again in parts of Africa per National Geographic Magazine article on malaria. Gave them away so I can't tell you which month/issue...
you folks must be to young to remember. DDT is a classic example of something that shouldn't have been used...but wasn't known at the time.
DDT was (without doubt) impacting birds (I recall hawks as the prime example).
Read Silent Spring if you want to know more. It happened, the return of birds of prey has been something I have personally seen in my 40 years of adult life in Wisc.
Now, on the opposite side....green folks (just lack of a better title) never forget a mistake (remember PCB's...one of the great political toxins of our times...although no one has ever died from it). It's the when did you stop beating your wife approach....can't ever say anything good about it.
And for pb....lots is junk...but the challenge posed by these folks has made some real positive changes (less than the form over function changes though....IMO)
