WF has had a great run, but it's over. Too much competition. I can get better organics for less at Safeway and also buy everything else I need. Management has tried to grow the store too fast and it is just another low-margin, low-growth grocery at this stage. PE25 is way high for this grocer. Look for this to drop under 20 in the next six months, or less.
You're a little late to the party. The damage has been done already, and overdone. WFM has no peer. it is the premier venue for healthy food, a theme that will grow for decades. Going to WFM is an event, a destination and not a chore. If you don't see that, you shouldn't own the shares. The other stores are pretenders and won't take away any business. The food supply chain at WFM has a whole lot more integrity than any other organic food seller. The organic food theme will be always synonymous with WFM.
I bought this around twenty and sold it around fifty. I can't take any credit for the timing. I got the advice to buy it from a newsletter, and I moved almost all my IRA stock to money market at the same time as WFM. I'm no one's expert, but I think the market is at or near a top. When I start to buy stocks again, there will be many that I pick before this one. I agree with the post above. It's a grocer. There's just too much competition, which will only get worse as food price increases continue to race past increases in income.
wow....you are full of it! For starters, the stock split so if you bought at 20/sh than you were up not 150% but rather 500%....but you clearly didn't know that so go away. As for the original post, you don't know what you're talking about either b/c they have actually held back growth to a frustrating high degree for longs. The reason the stock is being punished so hard isn't b/c of over-growth, but because of the conservative nature of their growth. The reason I am likely adding here is b/c they are the only chain who is in financial position to grow at this point. They can take on plenty of debt where their competitors absolutely can't take it on. I personally think WFM is a must buy at these levels though I have been hoping for lower levels thanks to folks like yourselves who may own the stock.
