    Would independents buy closed stores?

I live by a WD that is very convenient, but probably quite small by contemporary standards. It has been remodeled in the past year. If the chain were to close I'd be sad to lose it...what percentage of stores do you think would be run by independents or other chains if WD shuts down?

    • I do not know about a percentage but I do know that quite a few are sucessful. I worked in a small store for several years that was closed years ago and taken over by a hispanic chain. It went from 90k a week to 400k in a very short time and has sustained that volume for years. Sometimes all it atakes is getting away from the cookie-cutter way that WD does things. Had WD run it the same way and not tried to run it as a gringo store, they probably would have had the same results. The store still even looks pretty much like a WD of 15 years ago so changing the signs hanging over the deli and changing the salad containers isn't the answer.
