    Chipotle plans expansion into pizza

YES!!! More validation we have a winning concept, and maybe an interested acquisition/roll up partner.

The company launched Pizzeria Locale in Denver in May with two partners and is exploring options for two more stores in the city, it said. Like Chipotle, Pizzeria Locale lets customers customize their meals. With a bake time of less than two minutes, the pies are ready more quickly than it takes to bake a standard frozen pizza.

"Opening Pizzeria Locale using a model similar to Chipotle allows us to make extraordinary pizza, made with high-quality ingredients accessible to everyone," Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO of Chipotle, said in a release.

    • I think all the press of competition in the segment and the slow pace of new unit roll-outs is dragging on PZZI. 10 new units in 2013 is pretty slow. They need to open 10 a quarter asap to get this rolling again.

    • Always an optimist to be found....Pizza Holdings should just have stayed with Pizza Inn and maybe try the CiCi's way........So now people are looking for a buy-out already?.....Not sure why that would happen......Chipotle could build 30 units in the Dallas-FtW area in the next 3 months if they want to.....Besides the one P5 closed and the one they will re-locate there are still 2-3 that P5 would like to forget or (re-locate)....If Chipotle is serious about pizza they should hit it pretty hard and fast.....With P5 only having 18-20 units in total I don't think they will be interested in a roll-up.....
