Anyone hear any rumors about Qdoba being interested in Cosi? I saw a strange sight this morning in DC. Qdoba catering truck parked in Cosi Catering space. Could be nothing but at this point I am ready to grasp at any glimmer of hope. Good dream is better then a nightmare.
I think you missing the point of reason for a buyout. Its to aquire a proven winning concept that needscapitol to grow... COSI uses its capitol to fund more losing and keep its brass in the high rent district of DEERFIELD ILL with the Forutne 500s of the world !
What timing! The Cosi new chicken mole sandwich just got ripped by The Village Voice. Maybe the truck was there to teach them the right way to do sauce. Apparently the Director of Marketing position is still open.
Probably a coincidence especially if it was the one at 1850 M Street (Cosi and Qdoba are close to each other). However, I've always thought that the value of Cosi is not in continuing to operate as Cosi. The value may be in their real estate and not because it's undervalued or owned (they lease everything). It's because good urban sites are very hard to find so if the Cosi footprint works for Qdoba (or any other restaurant concept), maybe they'll make a play. Currently, Cosi lists 17 sites in the DC area and Qdoba has 28. It doesn't appear there's a ton of overlap so maybe it is of interest. That said, I don't see it being the catalyst for an acquisition at a price much higher than Cosi is selling for now.
