VisaVue® Travel Reports
This month, Visa launched VisaVue® Travel Reports, a strategic tool for the tourism industry based on analysis of Visa cardholder spending patterns worldwide. Visa’s network of 30 million merchants and 1.7 billion cards provides a unique and global view into international tourist spending. VisaVue® Travel Reports evaluates spending of both leisure and business travelers worldwide, and it analyzes purchase patterns based on travelers’ origin country and across various merchant categories – from airlines to restaurants.
“Visa is committed to providing a reliable global payment acceptance network for our cardholders, and supporting state and local governments in their efforts to grow tourism revenues by providing tourism data and insights that show where and how visitors spend their money,” said Sheedy.
"There is a shift to debit from credit. That is a function of the deleveraging of the world," said Robert Lutts, president and chief investment officer at Cabot Money Management.
Spending on debit cards surpassed credit volume in the United States in the first three months of 2009 for the first time in the history of Visa, the world's largest payment network.
Pollitt also said global processed transaction growth accelerated to 8 percent in April and May, from a 6 percent increase in the January-March period, as more people around the world replace cash for credit or debit cards.
Visa is partially insulated from the global credit crisis because it processes transactions rather than extends credit. However, revenue growth has slowed along with transaction volume as consumers try to reduce their debts.
"The business is going to look much better by the end of this year," Lutts said, betting on a global economic recovery by the end of 2009.
shorts have been wrong quarter over quarter about Visa numbers / earnings and yes they will be wrong again. I am a firm believer in impermanence so yes shorts will eventually be right but not for some time to come. Visa is the cash cow of cash cows. Isn't that irony for you Visa is a plastic company dealing in credit yet they are cash rich hummmm i wonder what happens to all that cash when the world becomes a credit only world. Deeeeeep ahhaahah
