AXP card usage was up 8% over the holidays. VISA earnings are directly linked to usage more so than how brick and mortar retailers fared over the holidays. If AXP was up 8%; then VISA usage will be even higher. Earnings will increase even beyond expectations. The V stock price will increase at least $6. That is short term. VISA earnings to be announced January 30th 2014.
VISA has no debt. They could issue $25 Billion in debt that could be used to supplement current free cash flow to buy back 25% of the outstanding common stock. Six months after they begin the buybacks, the stock will double in price and still have 90% of the buy back program untouched. Unused. Still in reserve. The buyback debt would be issued at around 4% and invested in purchasing stock with a return on equity of 18.27% (according to yahoo key statistics). VISA already has in place a $5 Billion buyback program.
