    Bought today for $14.50

I'm very new to this stock. Got lucky and bought at the low of the day--14.50/share. Buckeye seems to be undervalued, and pays a dividend. Analysts like it too.

Can someone provide some information about what is wrong with this company and why it sells for such a low p/e? Is it just because the paper industry is believed to be dying?

    Thanks!

    • and your analysis was undervalued by only $15.92

      i.e. $21 - $36.92 = you were wrong by 75%, and in few weeks it may be 100% .....

    • As I said at the start of this thread, I bought for $14.50 in late 2010. I noticed that the price is up to $35.24. Everything has been going right for Buckeye for the past year or so. Is it time to take some $ off the table and take my LTCG? All the analysts still like it, but its almost up to their price targets and the p/e is over 14 now. Opinions?

      Thanks,
      Hyulpy

    • You must have been really lucky since all the level 2 charts and transaction information for the day indicate the price never dropped below $14.87. Better check your trading confirmation records.

Aside from that, Buckeye's management is strong operationally and rate an F- on the sales and marketing side. Their recent presentation material to Wall Street analysts looks like it was prepared by a high school freshman.

      • Yes, I checked my trade confirmation: Trade date was 10/7/10. 500 shares at 14.50. If you check the charts, it hit $14.50 exactly once during that day. That was me!

Thanks for everyone's input on Buckeye. I read the 10-K. Nothing too incriminating. Hopefully they will make some improvements to management which will ultimately send the stock higher. BKI's price seems fairly low on a p/e basis.

    • Congratulations, hyulpy, on making $ quickly.

If you have the time and inclination, try reading the company's 10-K, especially the section on risk factors. I estimate BKI is about 6% of global fluff pulp capacity -- an important product for BKI. I estimate that approx 85% of BKI's fluff pulp production is sold externally -- it is a commodity. Commodity prices can go either way, influenced by a variety of factors, principally supply and demand.
