I'm not so sure about that. The future of smart meters is not clear to me. I tend to look for analogies to the companies I research, and when I compare adoption of highly successful technologies like the initial wave of analog utility meters and personal computers by industry versus smart meters I see that smart meter adoption doesn't fit the adoption profile of the former fundamental technologies.
