What % of French Project Itron can get?

As mentioned, Echelon did one pilot in France for 90K meters which should be almost completed at this time. The pilot for 300K meters that Itron (100K) participated in also included a French company and also Landis and Gyr. What many countries are looking at now is utilizing a company within their country to manufacture the meters and purchasing components from a separate company, and France could be going in that direction. So, many companies could participate but it may not be at the same revenue per meter as before.

    • lonworks: did you read the PR relating to the French project? If so, you may have noticed this excerpt -

"As part of the pilot project conducted by ERDF, Itron made significant investments—amounting to 8 million euros—in its research, development and manufacturing facilities."

It appears that Itron is planning to manufacture product in France for this contract, creating jobs and tax revenue for the French. What I find interesting is that you post nothing but negative comments about this opportunity as it relates to Itron; yet if Echelon had posted the same PR you'd be shouting the glory of Echelon's prowess in the worldwide smart grid market.

(lonworks): "Echelon did one pilot in France for 90K meters which should be almost completed at this time."

This information is from the article that you posted in a prior message -

"(San Jose, CA -November 5, 2008) - Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) announced today that the Group of Electricity Distributors in France (GAELD), a consortium of electricity distributors, has chosen Echelon's Networked Energy Services (NES) System for up to 90,000 homes. The project, awarded to Echelon partner Alter Way, is expected to begin within the next few months and to be completed by 2013."

This information indicates "up to 90,000" and complete by 2013. Given that the project started in 2009 and will complete in 2013, it is really just passing through the halfway point of the project. You seem to embellish information when it relates to Echelon while degrading information when it relates to Itron. Would you say that your perspective is fair and balanced, or would you say that you are heavily biased toward Echelon and heavily biased against Itron?
