    • ITRI is betting that PUC's will buy their ability to directly access home utility meters via a truck that stops at each site. Unfortunately, people are currently working on a system that will allow the PUC's to access each meter from their office. This ability, once perfected, will effectively destroy any market for ITRI in this area. Suggest you get out....

      • Not only does Itron have a Fixed network they also have a van mounted transiever that is rated to read the meter data at 35 miles an hour. It doesn't need to stop to make it's reads. This solution is still a very viable one as not all utilities will be able to afford a fixed rural electric companies, small PUDs etc etc.....

      • brianbb is misinformed; Itron has a fixed network AMR system
that leverages the existing mobile AMR technology very nicely.
Fixed network meter reading allows a utility to devise new
billing schemes, customer services, and distribution system
monitoring abilities. CellNet (CNDS) has a similar system.
Fixed radio networks won't destroy Itron; they will ensure its
future growth (assuming they find wide acceptance).
