    • I don't know why the drop at this time, but there seems to be a growning amount of competition (albeit new companies)

There was an article in the local paper on a company called Innovatec (SP?) in which they claim to have landed a number of contracts already. Also mentioned were some 10-15 companies with "new, more complete" technology than the older companies like ITRI or some of the meter companies.

Is there new Itron technology coming out?

      • Hi EDrell, et al

Just keep mind that End Users of remote metering equipment are mostly Utilities; and if we know about Utilities, like SCE,
they are not only extremely conservative but they would seldom put capital money on the reputation of new suppliers or for that
matter, new and unproved technology. There's too much at stake here and they cannot afford to make a bad choice. In fact a proposal
would have to contain an extensive lineup of satisfied users and be heavily bonded to be a qualified and responsive bid, otherwise
        no go!

Based on these assumptions, I would not fear competition from newcomers with their new technology, not in the case of SCE anyhow! These guys would have to start selling to very small end users and buid up a good reputation for their performance and after sale service, before they can be considered by the larger consumers.

Albeit, does anyone know more about the request for proposals? Is it real or just a rumor?

About the drop of ten percent on the 18th, those who held this stock for a while would not be discouraged by it. It happens now and then and I think it is just a manipulation that causes it. The fact that the technology as a whole was down, adds one more reason to the drop. I'm not one bit surprised nor perturbed about it.

Still, I surely like to see Itron get their foot in California, if the proposal is for real. That would certainly put Itron on the map and send the price above $30.

Keep your thoughts coming and good luck! Itausam
