    Meters will have ARM capability

It would make sense for a power meter company to
offer AMR capability. Especially with all the new means
of sending data other than captive networks that are
so expensive to build and maintain.

    This is
not at the end-user level, but it's just a matter of

Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution has introduced
    the QUAD4 MAXsys 2510, a direct-access, polyphase
power meter that brings versatility and value to power
generation, transmission and substation applications. The
meter packages a billing meter, revenue meter, power
    quality analyzer, intelligent electronic device,
mechanical loss compensator, transducer and small
point-count remote terminal unit into a single device. The
meter can serve as a measurement and billing device
throughout the grid. It is equipped with logic control that
enables utilities to change loss constants in the meter
based on the number of lines in service. In addition,
it gives end-users direct access to power quality
and power usage data. Its power-quality monitoring
capabilities include per-phase sag and swell recordings,
phase-angle measurements and total harmonic distortion
notations. The meter can interface with multiple SCADA
protocols. Its multiple communication systems enable two or
more user groups to receive meter information
simultaneously. A flexible power supply, available in two
    versions makes multiple installation configurations
possible. Communication is based on table-driven protocol
for increased accuracy and is supported by data
    collection systems.
